You know what frustrates me about Christian women today?
It’s that you aren’t given the tools you need to study the Bible for yourself!
I believe that every Christian woman should be able to study God’s Word for herself. And I’m sick & tired of the fact that no one gives you the info you need to feel CONFIDENT about personal Bible study.
You don’t have to be intimidated by the Bible. And you don’t have to wait for some preacher or Bible study leader to explain it to you. You can sit down with your own Bible, and you CAN study it & understand it for yourself.
What’s more, it is NOT hard to study the Bible for yourself!
I grew up in church.
I went to Sunday School. I was familiar with all the stories. I went to AWANA. I memorized a bunch of verses. I went to discipleship camps and Bible conferences. I was taught to get into the Word of God daily, and I’m super thankful for that. And I do remember a couple of different people trying to teach me how to study the Bible. But the time was too short. We could only skim the surface. So I graduated from high school, and I still felt like I didn’t know how to study the Bible myself.
And then I went to college. I went to two different Bible schools, for a total of 5 years. I got my Bachelor’s degree in Bible—with a certificate in Biblical Studies on top of that! And that is where I FINALLY learned how to study the Bible for myself.
In college, I took this most wonderful class called “Hermeneutics.”
I can’t actually remember what that huge word means right now, but I sure remember what the purpose of the class was: It was to teach us how to study the Bible.
And that’s what we did in that class. We chose a book of the Bible, and we spent all semester taking it apart—analyzing every single piece of that text. Hands on! Ourselves!!
And then we put it back together. And wrote a 20+ page paper about it.
By the time I finished that whopper of a paper, I finally understood something about how to study the Bible. (I won’t say everything, but definitely something!)
That class radically changed my life.
I finally knew how to study the Bible for myself!
I spent tens of thousands of dollars on those 5 years of Bible college. And I’m telling you, if “Hermeneutics” had been my ONLY class, it still would have been worth it.
FINALLY! Finally someone had shown me how to open the Bible, read it, dissect it, & understand it. My life would literally never be the same.
So guess what I did? I turned around and took the class again. Not because I didn’t pass the first time through, but because it was SO life-changing… and because I felt like I still hadn’t caught everything I could have about this wonderful new thing called “studying the Bible for yourself.”
The second time through was even better. I value that huge paper that I wrote for it like very few other things—not because the paper is so great, but because of what it signified: I personally understood how to read, study, & understand the Bible for myself.
You should be able to study the Bible for yourself, too.
It’s NOT HARD to study the Bible for yourself. You just have to know how.
I paid thousands upon thousands of dollars and spent years of my life in school to obtain that life-changing knowledge. But I hope to use this humble little blog as a place to share my knowledge with you—because I believe that EVERY Christian woman should know how to study the Bible for herself.
